Welcome to the professional qualifications section of my portfolio. This section is meant to provide potential employers with access to information about my professional philosophy and career path.
I have a lifelong obsession with learning. I graduated from West Jordan High School with a 3.98 GPA. Although I began college right after high school, it wasn't until my thirties that I rededicated myself to becoming a teacher and rekindled my love of learning. I graduated with my bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Phoenix with a 3.99 cumulative GPA. My undergraduate work in human services helped me prepare for education with insight into psychology and counseling. I am greater prepared to assist my students with this knowlege of human motivation, intellect, and development. I was torn at the end of my bachelor's program between a desire to continue in the counseling field and my original intent to become an educator. After much reflection, I realized that my true love lay in teaching. Many of my previous jobs included training and teaching positions, from leading sewing classes to writing a complete training manual as a supervisor in a worker's compensation claims department.
I continued on to obtain my Master's of Education at the University of Phoenix, completing my student teaching during my year long tenure at Challenger Schools. Shortly after, I began my public career at Bell View Elementary where I have been privileged to become a part of the Bell View family. I am now entering my sixth year as an educator and my fifth at Bell View. Since I can't make a living as a professional student, I share my passion for learning in my own classroom.
My true scholastic love is in math and science. I recall a parent teacher conference last spring where a parent thanked me profusely for their child's newfound interest in math. Their student had learned to love math as much as I do, simply because I am so enthusiastic about the subject. My primary focus is to help students reach their maximum potential with data driven instruction that increases student achievement.
My credentials include a Masters Degree in Elementary Education, an ESL endorsement, and a level 4 math endorsement. I am currently enrolled in Canyons School District's Educational Technology Endorsement, with an expected completion date of December 2014.
